Yooma invites comics

Yooma Brussels, the Comic Book Hotel, is located between Grand-Place and Brussels Midi. It offers rooms for 2, 4, 5, and 6 people for family or friends' trips in the Franco-Belgian comic book universe in partnership with Dargaud, Dupuis, Le Lombard, and The Smurfs.

 

The Smurfs

The series:

Who doesn't know the Smurfs? These kind blue elves with big white hats all look alike, even though they each have their own personalities, and speak a peculiar language in which most words are replaced by "smurf" or "smurfing". Under the benevolent authority of the great Smurf, this friendly little community organizes their lives and fights againts the abominable sorcerer Gargamel, who dreams of nothing but destroying them. An adorable fantasy that will charme the little ones and entertain their elders. 

Gaston

The series:

Billy & Buddy

The series:

Billy is a mischievous little boy who lives with his exemplary mother, his bumbling and accident-prone father, and Bill, the friendly cocker spaniel. This typical family comic strip made its debut in the pages of SPIROU magazine in 1959. While Billy appears in all the jokes, Buddy quickly steals the spotlight. This wacky dog enjoys bones, pretty female dogs, his turtle friend, bird cmpanions, and his young master, Billy. With his round and cheerful drawing style, the author depicts the everyday adventures of this particulary likable family living in a cozy house. Their environment is instantly recognizable: a charming house, a garden, and a car (the famous red 2CV)! This series has been a huge success in publishing, with nearly 1,000 jokes and over 7 million copies sold. Roba left Dupuis publishing for Dargaud in 1987, so the first 21 titles were published by Dupuis.

The series:

Valérian and Laureline

The series:

The storylines cleverly nod to our era, featuring tyrants and dictators often reminiscent of those from our 20th century. With incredibily inventive stories, the creators of Valérian have succesfully captivated the widest possible audience since 1967, the year this series was created for the weekly magazine PILOTE.

 
 

Blake and Mortimer

The series:

A mythical symbol of high-quality popular comic books, the series has unquestionably become a best-seller over the years. The author, E.P. Jacobs, loved grandiosity which is fully realized in the scientific inventions, including the famous Swordfish. Notable characters such as Septimus, Olrik and Miloch also contribute to the extraordinary gallery of characters. The fascination exerted by this series remains undiminished to this day. Thus, the new releasses have enjoye unprecedented success, starting with "The Francis Blake Affair" by Ted Benoît and Jean Van Hamme, followed by "The Voronow Plot" by André Juillard and Yves Sente, and "A Strage Appointment" by Van Hamme & Benoît. The adventure continues today with "The Gondwana Sanctuary" the 18th installment in this prestigious series.

Ducobu

Léonard

The series:

Léonard is a genous. Or at least, that's what he believe! A hilarious caricature of the illustrious Leonardo da Vinci, well-known for his portraits of ladies with enigmatic smiles, he invents the most absurd machines and tests them on his faithful Disciple. The latter, who only aspire to a peaceful life, inevitably ends up covered in wounds and bruises. The character was created in 1975, so we are celebrating his 30th anniversary in 2005! It's true that with his long white beard, we tended to give him... um, sorry, dear genius, a bit more credit!

Achille Talon

The series:

His little hat, his big belly, and his cane are known to all: Achille Talon, the perfect archetype of the average Frenchman, has been gracing the pages of PILOTE since 1963. Greg, his creator, shapes a little world to his measure: a charming suburban house, an annoying neighbor (Lefuneste), a snobby fiancée (Virgule de Guillemetts), a beer-lovin father, and a kind mother who spoils him wih delicous meals. Achille has a heart  as big as that, a shockingly sharp brain (...), a deep self-esteem and an impressive ability to talk: his verbosity is emphasized to the fullest. Until 1976, Achille Talon is the hero of gags that fit in one or two panels, he divides him time between his house and the editorial office of the POLITE newspaper for which he is supposed to work as a 'hero'. Starting in 1977, Achille Talon's adventures change pace: long stories puncutated with numerous twists gradually replace the gag panels. It is also at this time that the short-lived Achille Talon magazine is launched. Greg excels at caricaturing famous comic book characters (Goscinny, Charlier, etc.). His style is round, efficient, and direct.  

 
 

Ric Hochet

The series:

Is there still a need to introduce Ric Hochet? One of the most famous journalist-detectives in the world of comics. From classic investigations stories and fantastical tales, in the face of dangerous traps set for him, the resilience and astuteness of the fiery columnist for "La Rafale" are never found wanting. 

XIII

The series:

A strong man with the appearance of a seasoned adventurer finds himself without a name, without a past, without memories, in an unknown place. His only clue to uncover his identity is a number, XIII, tattooed on him. His situation becomes even more uncomfortable as a band of killers is on his trail. Furthermore, he discovers that high-ranking civilian and military figures are taking an interest in him. This espionage tale is set in an unspecified modern country, but closely resembling the United States. The long poursuit continues from one album to another, and Jean Van Hamme gradually reveals information about the hero's past, which appears to be linked to the recent history of his country.

The series:

A romantic hero full of humour, strenght, and character in the tradition of Cartouche and Fanfan la Tulipe. A flamboyant tale of swashbuckling adventure set in 18th century Italy, the libertine era of Casanova... Additional details from S. Desberg about the story arcs: The story of Scorpion has always been a single marrative for us. However, it is logical to consider that there are chapters. The first three albums form a coherent cycle centered around the Pope and his murder in Rome. The second cycle takes Scorpion to the Holy Land to find evidence that will prevent Trebaldi from taking the Pope's place. It consists of albums, 4, 5, and 6. The third cycle, from volume 7 to volume 10, reveals the origins of Scorpion and his connections to the Trebaldi family.
